OUR JOURNEY

Building Trust Relationships Over Time

Our commitment to building relationships of trust over time is key to nurturing authentic and meaningful learning environments for our children. Collectively and in our individual schools, we make promises in order to keep them. The simple words we use, the way we respond in a crisis, looking the child in the eye and valuing the sacrifices our teachers make, all became ways for us to build those trust relationships.

Every year we gather at the Wisehub Summit to be mutually supportive of each other, to learn together and learn from others. We also plan strategies to implement what we have acquired as knowledge and skills. The Europe 2019 #AccountabilityThinking is one way how we want to implement what we are learning. We are excited to meet with partners in Sweden and Belgium.

Our main objectives for the Sweden/Belgian school visits include:

  • Enlarging their network by securing an indication of an interest from at least 4 Swedish schools in the Stockholm region to partner in seeking funding in at least 1 major area: Researching new technologies that can be deployed in the gardens of all four schools in South Africa. The desire is to see the school gardens serve as 1) supplement to the nutritional needs in the early grades 2) an onsite laboratory for studies in ecology and 3) an introduction in understanding the supply chain in the food industry.

  • Finding innovative ways to foster meaningful student and teacher exchanges: Skype sessions between teachers and students, web-based creative writing and video blogs are two unexplored examples of exchange. Specifically, the aim is to arrive at an agreement or start making one around planning for at least 2 sessions before the European summer.

  • Gleaning leadership insights by exploring: What transferable strategies do Stockholm schools' leaders deploy in dealing with, for example, improving parental involvement. What are the top 5 leadership challenges at the school? How does leadership at the school involve local businesses and organizations in extending the learning experiences for students? Which leadership strategies work in improving knowledge and skills amogst teachers to deal with a) Special education Needs b) Multiculturalism and c) Character development?

  • Extending their knowledge by learning from practices by Special Education Needs teachers. How does the school address teacher competence in developing awareness and sensitivity to students with special needs?
